Mantis!
I was looking through the comments and noticed that nobody mentioned the lice under its arms and what looks like a small mantis up on its left arm at the top! Most likely that is not what it is but it sure looks like it could be! Kool!
I found one yesterday and it just crawled right up on my hand when I offered it. I sure wish I knew more about them to keep and breed. The one yesterday I am sure was a male. I found a female last year so I am sure I can tell the difference as they were very different. I remember as a kid we hatched out a bunch and released them as a school project. Was never bitten or anything. They don't seem to be aggressive at all. Except to their prey of course. I just love insects they are so Kool!!!

Great close up on the Mantid
Great close up on the Mantid with it's pray

Excellent shot.
Excellent shot. Actually praying mantis are a very gentle insect unless you're their pray. But I handle them all the time and they actually voluntarily climb onto my finger. Never been bit or anything. they will stare at you too. An awesome insect.

Awesome Mantid!
Hi Richard,
That is one fantastic photo, increadible detail!
Anyway I'm still working on try to figure out the differences that make the Chinese so different. One thing that I have noticed (at least in the photos that I have taken of them, is that the spines (for lack of better terms) under the forearms seem to be longer than those of the praying mantid. I also noted in your photo that yours is somewhat greener than others I've seen.

Its been months since I've been able to update my web site but I do have several mantid shots that I'll try to post ASAP.

Funny, the last Chinese mantid photo I took last month was also chowing down on a bumble bee, lol...

Good luck, and keep on shooting!
