Many thanks
Maury for the page. Do you think my recent post is the same species?

Pyralidae
I'd start looking through the Phycitinae-Peorinae section of MPG

Pyralidae
Many thanks, Marcia. Will go back to the drawing board!

Labial palp
This is unquestionably a pyralid. You were right to think Gelechioidea on basis of the appearance of the labial palp in the other photo of this moth, but that appearance must have been caused by a random piece of material that in actuality has nothing to do with the labial palp. Hopefully, this is an accident that seldom if ever again will crop up to mislead. As you can see in the photo above, this moth has the short and stubby labial palp of Pyralidae, as was correctly diagnosed by Marcia.

Learning is such fun. Thanks for ALL the he.p. Will to back to the drawing board!

perhaps ...
that "tuffted" margin is present in the genera Acrobasis - Hodges #5651-5695 - the types of vegetation in your area might lend a clue as to which one !!!

Many thanks for working on this
Well, Marcia, what a good suggestion. The shape is certainly familiar. I got up early this morning too, but have been "investigating" your suggestion and trying to lighten my photos a bit. I couldn't get the photos to show ANY color. The best I can come up with is Acrobasis juglandis and our house is above a Pecan Bottom, but BG has NO pictures of that one and they don't show on MPG to be in our area, so I am probably won't get an ID on these poor photos. For now I will give it that name with a ? and hope it shows up again.

Acrobasis texana
...

5666.1 Acrobasis texana
wOW! Another of those moths without a photograph! I think you are one of those experts I'm not supposed to contact, but thank you, thank you! I thought my photo was too bad for me to hear from anyone. Too bad I didn't catch that one! Will keep looking.

Ann

hmmmm.
I just noticed your comment on the other view of this moth, and it has me wondering ... I'm going back to the drawing board, too! This is a good puzzler.

.
This makes "mothing" fun!
