Orlando Fl, Urban Dwelling. Found in washing machine. - Cithaeron praedonius
Winter Springs (sub of Orlando), Seminole County, Florida, USA
Size: 1/2 inch
Found in the evening, around 8 PM. The specimen was found alive, crawling in the bottom of my washing machine as I was removing clothes that had just finished washing. The butt (sorry, I'm no scientist) has a dark line in the middle, it's visible in some of the other photos I have.

Found tonight
I live in Orlando Florida and found this spider tonight. I believe it is Cithaeron Praedonius. I’m not sure how to post the picture.

I have additional images
of this specimen, taken through the microscope. What's the best way for us to keep all the images associated?

Either
You post them and we'll add thumbnails back and forth from this set and yours (probably best) OR email them to the contributor to post them with you as the "Copyright owner".

G.B. Edwards
also thinks it looks like Cithaeron praedonius. However, he wonders if there is any way to get a close-up of the ventral view, so I'm assuming he'd like a close-up of the epigyne.

Sending Her to friend with better equipment
I'm sending the specimen to someone with equipment that allows him to take these quality photos of the microscopic evidence. I expect these photos will be on their way shortly. Will post updates as I receive them.

Just got the specimen!
New pics coming soon.

Relieved
I'm so happy to hear you finally received the package. I was beginning to wonder about our postal service... I'm also looking forward to finally see the high-quality images!

How Very Exciting!
Wow, so fun and interesting! We've been on the look out for more, especially a Male. I haven't found any since this little girl but I am pretty sure I'll find more :)

awesome, and possibly more on the way
We referred this spider here from reddit, because it's special and because we were stumped (now feeling vindicated - no WONDER I felt like I had ruled out every family in NA!). MrWheeler has seen many of these around - in fact we believe he posted another back in June 2012 with more challenging image quality. I've described how to recognize a male, and he reports seeing them, so hopefully we can add a mate to the guide soon!

Thank you bugguide, and thank you kyron.

Specimen has arrived -
New pics coming soon.

thanks again
Awesome pics, Arlo - and what a fascinating creature!

excellent! :D
I'm excited... please x-post the full res.

Moved from ID Request. I will email G.B. Edwards and see what he thinks. Great spider!

Cithaeron praedonius?
Just came across this thread while trying to find a match in Tengellidae (no luck there!):
http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?199982-Yet-another-spider-identification-thread...this-one-eats-other-spiders.
where some visually very similar spiders are being discussed and turned out to be Cithaeron praedonius. They're now known to be living in Florida (see here). The endites had me thinking something along the lines of Gnaphosidae, to which Cithaeronidae is related.

Let's see what others think, but it looks like a great match to me. If so, this would be a whole new family for BugGuide, and a very nice find indeed!

Kyron ...
you're amazing.

I just got lucky...
... while barking up the wrong tree. :p

...
Bah, I looked in Tengellidae too (I also looked in Oonopidae, can I call that one amazing?) but I missed the article. I may have seen it before though and may be why it looked so familiar to me.

Spider
Not sure what this might be right now. Those thin palps are interesting, as is how they're held. Do you have a clear picture of the underside by any chance?

clear picture
clear picture of the underside has been added.

Thanks!
Very interesting. An adult female, but I'm still not sure beyond that. I'll keep looking. Maybe someone else will get an idea too.

Neat find ...
I don't know what it is at the moment but think I've seen something similar before so that gives me hope one of the others may recognize this. Does the size you put on it include the legs or just body length?

Just the body, over all it's
I think I was wrong, I think it's much smaller. Closer to 1/4 - 1/2 inch. Sorry about that.
