Size: Bl~ 6.5 mm or so
The lateral view of this insect. It is on Eriogonum brevicaule in the Buckwheat family.

Lynn- I am no expert;however,
Lynn- I am no expert;however, it appears to be in the Syrphidae fly family,a Thick-legged Hoverfly, possibly a Syritta pipiens.

I had the species, 9/7/2012, here on Skidaway Island, Savannah, Chatham Co, Ga.
