Sphinx Moth - Euchlaena

Sphinx Moth - Euchlaena
Stoney Pass Road, S of Pine, Jefferson County, Colorado, USA
July 19, 2012
I'm guessing a Sphinx Moth, it looks similar to a Modest Sphinx, but the coloration seems different; I believe it was on a Juniper Tree, 8200 feet. Thank you.

I was wondering the same thing. It would be great if editors would move images directly from ID Request to the most specific possible place in the guide. Chuck, have you considered becoming an editor? Anyone able to help with sorting out the moths would be most appreciated.

Geometrid moth
Tony,

This image can safely be moved to the genus Euchlaena. Any particular reason for just putting in Geometridae?

Euchlaena sp.
This is one of the many geometrids in the genus Euchlaena and there are several in Colorado. You can study the array of species on this MPG plate. On that plate, I'd say the best match is #6731 E. madusaria. A similar species is #6730 E. mollisaria which has been synonymized with #6729 E. johnsonaria. See the discussion on ID on the latter BG page which seems to add weight to yours being madusaria.

Geometrid
But I don't know which offhand.
