NOT Merodon
Not sure what syrphid this is, but it is not the Narcissus bulb fly. The anatomy is all wrong, body too narrow. This is probably a genus not yet represented in Bugguide.

 
Syrphid Fly
I thought it was the same type as this one, which you believed was a Merodon.


If it is not a Narcissus bulb fly, could it be a Mallota sp.?

This animal looks more like a Brachypalpus species to me!
