Weird ground beetle - Diplous californicus - male

Weird ground beetle - Diplous californicus - Male
Mt. Hood area, Clackamas County, Oregon, USA
July 2, 2011
Size: 16 mm
I have found this ground beetle under a log but didn't touch it for quite a while. Only very recently I realized that is something very new for me. At the first moment I though this is just a regular Pterostichus but these unusually long coxae make me feel completely lost...
I'm really looking for help with ID or/and explanation why this specimen (species) has such a weird coxae. Thank you in advance!

Moved from ID Request.

Great!
"V", thanks a lot for your ID! I was completely lost when I saw these long trochanters...
Did you mean Patrobus trochantericus as a synonym for this guy? Seems like this name would be a real name for my specimen!

yup, the male was described as trochantericus
