Ordinary ol' Grasshopper - Melanoplus differentialis - male

Ordinary ol' Grasshopper - Melanoplus differentialis - Male
Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas, USA
August 31, 2006
Size: ~40 mm
I'm sure this is a very common Hopper. The best I could come up with when looking in the guide is a Differential Grasshopper (Melanoplus differentialis). The size, general appearence and habits all match.

I found him (where else?) hopping in the grass.

Beautiful shot!
I have to ask you, too - how do you achieve such great depth of field?

Thanks
Thanks, Ashley.

I use a small apeture - f/22 - and flash.

That explains it.
I guess I should try that aperture - I was just assuming it would get too dark, but then I AM using a flash, so I guess it shouldn't. And it's not like I'm going to waste film... Duh. =) I think my camera set itself that way when I had it in auto mode and I assumed there was a reason for it and stuck close to it when I switched to manual; I've been shooting at f/11.
