Asteromyia modesta

Asteromyia modesta
Ice Pond Lot, Nantucket, Nantucket County, Massachusetts, USA
August 16, 2012
Size: 1.8 mm
Emerged from an inconspicuous gall (possibly lacking symbiotic fungus) on an Elliott's goldenrod leaf. Netta Dorchin, who examined the specimen, noted that Asteromyia carbonifera may actually be a complex of cryptic species.

Moved from Asteromyia carbonifera.
John Stireman told me this has to be A. modesta, based on the gall. Netta Dorchin confessed to not having looked at the adult closely after seeing that it was an Asteromyia. The gall is pictured here.
