Lirceus sp - Lirceus

Lirceus sp - Lirceus
Splinter Ridge FWA, Switzerland County, Indiana, USA
February 9, 2013
I am guessing on the genus so correct me if I am wrong. These isopods are common on and under rocks in streams in the area.

Moved
Moved from Asellidae.

Moved from Asellus.

Ooops
Based on Williams' 1972 key to freshwater isopods, this appears to be Lirceus (though he does not provide a key for the species of that genus, only Asellus). The dorsal view of the head seems o be diagnostic for genus level identification.
