Try digging!
I hear Trogidae larvae should be underneath but I haven't been out collecting in a long time (stupid grad school keeping me busy :) ) to check out how valid that is.

Have not dug underneath, but
Have not dug underneath, but will go out today and give it a try.

Necrobia sp.
I suppose.

yup. N. violacea, who else.

Thank you.
Blaine, Vassily,

Many thanks. My first in this family. Arnett doesn't mention finding it on dried carrion.

I find them there.
Mostly N. rufipes but I collect dried carcasses to see what will emerge and these cuties often come out among the millions of nitidulids :)

Thanks. I'm in the Missouri Ozarks, and have been keeping an eye on this carcass for two months now. Nothing left but bone and connective tissue. Earlier, all Catops, then the Nitidula arrived when the "corpse" reached the post-decay stage.
