Oecanthus pini male?

Identification of Pine Tree Cricket
Thank you very much for the ID. I see at: http://www.entnemdept.ufl.edu/walker/buzz/587a.htm
that it definitely is a male Oecanthus pinin.

I agree this appears to be O. pini, however...
...keep a watch out for O. laricis - which are very similar in appearance. They might be encountered in Oakland Co. - and prefer Tamarack and Hemlock trees.

Which Oecanthus?
Is it possible this is actually a male Snowy Tree Cricket (Oecanthus fultoni)?

No. O. pini have rusty colored head, pronotum & limbs
O. fultoni has pale limbs, pronotum and only a patch of reddish orange on the top of the head.

What made you wonder that?

O. fultoni
Just today I received a copy of the National Wildlife Federation's "Field Guide to Insects and Spiders", and their photo of O. Fultoni looked very much like mine. Surprisingly, the only other Oecanthus they list is O. nigricornis.

I've seen a photo of O. latipennis....
in a museum labeled as O. fultoni. They too look very different - well, at least to a person with a moniker of Wisconsin Oecanthinancy they do!

Tree cricket
I don't know the species but you can search through records for Michigan in September to get an idea (need to be logged in). Others may know the species on sight so hold on for a learned opinion.
