Specific epithet from Latin rutilatus meaning "reddened."

Larva - Dull yellow body with orange-brown head and prothoracic shield. (2)
Range
Records from the northeastern United States and western Canada. (3)
Type locality: Germany.
Food
Larvae spin loose silken shelters from which they mine the needles of common juniper (Juniperus communis). (4), (2)
Remarks
This species was number 3758 in the 1983 Hodges Checklist.
