bee fly on gaillardia stem - Anastoechus

bee fly on gaillardia stem - Anastoechus
6 miles NW Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
August 7, 2006
Size: BL ~ 11 mm
This bee fly was on a Blanket Flower stem (G. aristata, Asteraceae). The wing venation suggests Anastoechus. Any help is much appreciated.

Moved from Bee Flies.

Anastoechus, seconded
Hairy buggers. I think this one needs a brushing!

Thanks, Ron. You're right. He or she needs a brushing! I have no idea why it's so ruffled.

Yeah, mine usually primp before I take their picture. LOL!
Lynn, you have to tell them they're going to be on the cover of Bee Fly Monthly.

Another Anaschoesus
I just submitted one with just the common hairdo, shaggy but neat! (# 760385) It also seems a paler version to me. Anaschoesus has only 4 species, but neither picture shows the diagnostic haltere color.
