Pentatomidae - Zicrona sp - Zicrona

Pentatomidae - Zicrona sp - Zicrona
6 miles NW Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
June 3, 2005
Size: ~4.5 mm
This blue-green metallic stink bug seems most likely genus Zicrona. Bug Guide notes two species, Z. americana which occurs out west and Z. caerulea (or caeruleus) which occurs in the east. This individual occurs just past where the plains meets the foothills on the east side of the Rocky Mountains. Can it be determined to an eastern or western species? Any help is much appreciated.

Moved
Moved from Zicrona caerulea.

Move is based on (1)

Interesting that DB Thomas has CO records- no records of Z. caerulea in CO from the mentioned research but there are records for Z. americana noted. Seems possible that both species are present in the area, so probably better to be cautious.

Moved tentatively based on D.B. Thomas's pers.comm.:
"The one species I have seen from Colorado is Zicrona caerulea: I recently identified a batch of specimens from Colorado and those and the ones in my collection from that state were caerulea."

Moved from Stink Bugs.

Thank you, v belov, and please thank D. B. Thomas for the information on this handsome metallic pentatomid, Z. caerulea, from Colorado. It is much appreciated.
