Baton Rouge - BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, USA
September 1, 2006
Size: 0.7 inch wing span
In meadow area of Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.
About 11:00. About 85 deg F.
Basking in sunlight about 1 foot off the ground.
Hard to disturb, even when setting up tripod for picture.
Almost no scales on hindwing. Is that normal?

S. ecclesialis
Moved from Samea. See guide page for features that distinguish this species from S. mulitiplicalis.

Wow!
Stunning photo! This is in the genus Samea, but I can't tell you which species - maybe someone else can.

Thanks for the link
Amazing and fun how fast responses come on this site.

Visually seems to fit quite well with the other photos shown at the link you provided.
Including that many scales are missing on some of those specimens too.
In real life I thought that some of the wing colors were green. Now I see that the green comes from seeing the leaves thru the transparent parts of the wings.
