Dytiscidae
Splinter Ridge FWA, Jefferson County, Indiana, USA
February 24, 2013
These small "water tigers" were showing up infrequently in leaf packs under rocks. Can anyone verify the family and get it down to genus? (I know this one may be tricky)

Dytiscidae
One of the Colymbetinae. Probably Agabus or Ilybius, but can't tell from this photo.

For the dytiscid larvae in general, there are a number of very small features on the palps and also the urogomphi that need to be seen. I think those characters are probably beyond the resolution of what you can do without a microscope.
