Lone Star Tick - Male? - Amblyomma americanum
Tallahassee, Florida, USA
February 24, 2013
I found this tick on my clothing after a walk in the woods near Tallahassee, FL. I believe its a male 'Lone Star' tick- Amblyomma americanum. But my ID needs confirmation. The coffee stirrer this individual is perched on is 4mm wide.

A nice image and worth retaining in the Guide.

Moved from ID Request.

Thank you
I'm also glad to learn that these do not transmit Lyme disease :)

yes I agree
male A. americanum. We got covered by them two years ago at the Beetle Round-up in Clay Co, FL :)

male A. americanum
Many thanks for the ID confirmation. I'm just hoping these don't carry Lyme disease!

Lyme disease is transmitted by Ixodes spp.
