Theridion? - Theridion

Theridion? - Theridion
Gloucester County, New Jersey, USA
March 5, 2013
Size: approx 1.6mm
Found in my son's sandbox, inside a sandcastle mold. The box has a lid but it blew off in a rain storm a few months ago and there is still a pool of water inside.

Moved
Moved from Spiders. Hey Laura, let us know if you get more shots as it matures. At this point I don't have anything else to offer. Sorry.

...
Thanks, I don't have it anymore. I don't know what I would have fed it if I kept it but will look for more in the same location when the snow melts. I may try keeping some immature spiders in the future to see what they become though as my husband wants to get a another Praying Mantis and if he does I plan on sharing crickets with him.

Juvenile theridiid
I'm not sure about the genus, it looks juvenile?

...
I think it bears a resemblance to these. You're probably right that it's a juvenile though aside from size I don't know how to tell.

...
It does look similar! I say juvenile because the palps aren't enlarged (if it's male, it's very young), and there's no epigynum visible in the ventral shot like in your adult female here (the dark structure near the front of the abdomen):

...
OK, thank you! I didn't realize the epigynum might not be visible in an immature female. I figured my picture wasn't clear enough to tell but thought the line on the sternum might help with the ID.
