Male (?) ant - Camponotus - male

Male (?) ant - Camponotus - Male
Plano, Collin County, Texas, USA
March 5, 2013
I was thinking the big bulgy eyes make it a male? But its got a big gaster and fairly functional looking mandibles, so maybe queen? The petiole makes me think Camponotus? I feel pretty lost!

Brought to me by a coworker who found it in his house.

Going with first guess...
After looking about here and on the web a bit, I think a Camponotus male, probably C. pennsylvanicus but could be C. chromaiodes (though C. chromaiodes may not be in range for me?). I did include a genitalia shot, but don't know if it's good enough to distinguish based on that (or what the differences are). I've still got the specimen, but no workers or queens to compare - if another shot/clearer shot would help I can take more pictures. It was in the same house as a C. sayi worker was found a couple weeks back, but I don't think C. sayi males are all black.

I can also measure it if that'd help matters. I know that body was less than 12mm (since that's approx my full sensor size at 2:1 magnification), but I had to back off 2:1 to get all of legs and antennae in frame so can't directly estimate with these pics.

Most definitely a Camponotus male. I don't know east coast Camponotus well enough to validate a sp. det.

No one does, Brendon. This wi
Thisone's from TX, but no one knows the males there either, Brendon. This will have to go in the genus bin.

Thanks!
Thanks James - that's kind of what I figured, but good to know for sure!
