Diving Beetle - Tropisternus
Versailles, Ripley County, Indiana, USA

I don't know whether this is a predacious or scavenger diving beetle, but they were abundant in a small vernal pond where numerous individuals were observed actively foraging at night.

the ventral shot shows clearly that Adephaga should be ruled out
