Ironclad Beetle? - Sesaspis emarginata

Ironclad Beetle? - Sesaspis emarginata
Dripping Springs, Hays County, Texas, USA
August 19, 2006
Size: 1" to 1 1/2"
Found in the middle of our living room carpet when we came home late one night. (Better than the scorpions we've been finding.) Just like Brian Malow's Zopherus, this beetle played possum when I tried to see if it was alive or not. Left alone for a couple of minutes, it turned itself over and started off at a leisurely pace.

Moved from Ironclad Beetles.

yes..Zopherus
Zopheridae Phellopsis sp. I think..

Looks close, but the color is different...
This one was definitely dark gray, and the ones in the guide are brown. But the shape and size seem to be fairly consistent. Especially the bump pattern on the back, which is not the same in the other forms shown in the guide.

There are apparently threads running on two of these photos. Can the threads be combined, so everyone is in the same place?
