It's amazing how plentiful these are.
They don't need much moisture either. I've had some tree fungus samples gathering dust for months in my room, dry as a bone (or a soda cracker). I cracked it open recently to find some of these little guys. I need to see about rounding up a ciid specialist to have a look at this family on bugguide.

I broke off a piece of the fungus on which I found the adults and found lots of tiny larvae inside -- I'm guessing they were ciids but I didn't know for sure. If they were, that would agree with your observation about how plentiful they are.
