Long-jawed Orb Weaver plays dead - Tetragnatha laboriosa

Long-jawed Orb Weaver plays dead - Tetragnatha laboriosa
Thompson Falls, Sanders County, Montana, USA
June 22, 2006
These orb weavers like to hang in their web belly up, which can be annoying for taking photos. I poked this one gently with a piece of grass and it fell stiffly from its web like it was dead. It lay on this leaf on its back for a few seconds and then flipped over and started moving again. I think this is the first time I've seen a long-jawed orb weaver play dead.
