Size: 18 mm wingspan
Found at a lighted sheet. Wingspan estimated from measured wing chord.

Probably 1065 - Martyringa latipennis
... markings are probably variable. Photos on Larry Line's Maryland site, All-Leps Barcoding, and MPG (below) may not be as well marked as your specimen. There is another species in the genus (1066 - M. ravicapitis) that I have not seen. Vargo's specimen has a wingspan of 17mm. And, yes, I went through all the pyralids too before hitting on this one! Also, there are specimens from NC in the state collection.

Oops! I forgot to check Hodges' MONA Fascicle 6.2 (1974). He shows two specimens, one is a perfect match for your photo. He also shows M. ravicapitis which can't be confused with your moth.
