Clerid - Pennasolis merkeli

Size: 6.5 mm
This Clerid landed on my picnic table. Looks kind of like Madoniella, but Am Beets says these would be 4 mm, east of Rockies, and have pale bands on elytra (like the many photos of dislocata here). The only pale coloration is a band on the upper tibiae. Anyone recognize it?

Interesting. Should the info page on Madoniella be updated to say only 1 species? Looks like the other two are now Pennasolis.

Nope! At least 8 species in the US by current literature.
M. pinicola, M. chiricahua, M. nana, M. rectangularis, M. knullorum, M. welderi, M. vogti, and M. dislocata are all reported from the US in Opitz, W. 2011: Classification, natural history, and evolution of Epiphloeinae (Coleoptera, Cleridae) Part X. The genus Madoniella Pic, 1935. - Entomologica Basiliensia et Collectionis Frey 33, 133-248.
