Noctuidae larva on Silene stellata - Hadena ectypa

Noctuidae larva on Silene stellata - Hadena ectypa
Plymouth Rock, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
July 20, 2012
This was a very good day indeed.
One of the measures with which I judge the success of this little prairie planting is insects. Plant it and will they come? This prairie planting has a good number of starry campion, Silene stellata (as well as the weedy bladder campion, S. vulgaris).
2012 was the first year I found this larva feeding on starry campion fruits.
