Explanation of Names
Specific name sangamonia refers to the Sangamon River which runs through Decatur, Illinois, where the type specimen was collected.
Size
Wingspan about 24 mm. (2)
Identification
Adult - see Barnes & McDunnough's original description in Print References.
Range
Illinois east to Maryland, south to Florida, west to Texas and Oklahoma. Absent from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8)
Holotype ♂ from Decatur, Macon County, Illinois (8-15 May). (2)
Season
The adults have been recorded from April to November, but are most common from April to July. (4)
Heppner (2003) reported January and April for Florida. (8)
Food
Heppner (2003) reported the larval host as leaf litter(?). (8)
