Shining Leaf Chafer? - Paracotalpa puncticollis

Shining Leaf Chafer? - Paracotalpa puncticollis
Embudo, Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, USA
April 6, 2013
I was down by the Rio Grande at Embudo Station when I noticed this beetle. It was upside down in the sand but before I could help it righted itself and promptly flew onto my windshield wiper. It struggled to get a grasp on the glass so eventually after taking a couple photos I decided to help relocate it someplace more beetle-friendly. I gave it a short ride to an embankment and it flew around the parking area for a minute before I lost it.

I found one like this in our driveway a week ago, dead but with no obvious signs of trauma. I collected it and have it on my desk.
