master of disguise - Anatis labiculata

master of disguise - Anatis labiculata
Verona, Augusta County, Virginia, USA
April 14, 2013
I was photographing moths, and this glossy "black" beetle happened along ... but when I saw the beetle in a different light, I could see it was a master of disguise. I'm guessing, but is this little guy's next stage adulthood?

an elderly 15-spotted Lady Beetle
Actually, this is a fairly elderly adult - these beetles start out gray and darken to purple as they age. The oldest adults are nearly black like this one.
