Very cool looking fly liked my camera bag.

Agree, it's gotta be Apiocera
...even though the wing venation is not clearly discernible, nor the posterior end (so can't tell for sure whether it's a male or female...though I'd guess the latter, from very widely-separated eyes and not even a blurry intimation of a bulky pair of hemitergites way back there).

But the overall gestalt: size, shape (i.e. torpedo-like body), details of head (e.g. antennae, mouthparts), and lines & spots visible on abdomen...all make it seem this must be a member of the wonderful genus Apiocera! And the habitat is right too.

Looks a bit more pale beige-ish than typical...perhaps somewhat teneral?
