Explanation of Names

Sonora + Latin, -ensis, from, belonging to. Described from Isla Raza and Angeles Bay in the Gulf of California.

Size

8-11 mm

Identification

Within the senilis group, this species may be recognized by the absence of a dark corial spot (present in R. senilis and R. vanduzeei). Additionally, the apical process of the scutellum is short and stout whereas in all other North American Reduvius the process is long and slender. This species may be macropterous or brachypterous; all other Reduvius in our region are known only from the macropterous form. Both R. sonoraensis and R. senilis are smaller in size (8-11 mm) than R. vanduzeei (13-14 mm).
