Cow spine beetle - Dermestes caninus

Cow spine beetle - Dermestes caninus
low base of Organ Mountains, Doña Ana County, New Mexico, USA
August 13, 2006
Size: about 7 mm
I found this solitary dermestid, along with maybe a dozen h*am beetles, by breaking apart an old cow spine I found alongside a dirt road. I figured if anything was making a living on the remains, they would be inside. IDed by comparing with specimens in the NMSU arthropod collection, where this specimen now resides.

This image is a composite of two images, with the out-of-focus back and pronotum being partially replaced by the same parts that were in focus on another image.

Moved from Dermestes.

Thanks, Belov,
I'll tentatively rename it in my files.
