This is
an Iron-Cross Blister Beetle, Tegrodera aloga.

Be careful with these little guys, they produce cantharidin which can cause a nasty blister.

Thank you so much for identifying this guy for us! One of my 3rd grade students found it out on our field yesterday at school and we were all so curious about what it was. I'll be sure none of them touch it and only observe! Beautiful creature!
