Size: apx. 9.6 mm
Specimen photographed on 1/4" graph paper. Might this be Hodges #0442, C. Gloverii? Because of the comments by RLZ on my post #740334 I am also posting pictures of the antennae. My best count of the number of segments is 19. Also see Donald Riley's
from Houston.

I'm thinking #0441
Cryptothelea nigrita (Nigrita Bagworm Moth). I saw and photographed one in Houston, after first placing the bagworm in a jar. That was from the March and April timeframe. MPG shows #0441 mostly appearing in March-May.

I can't rule out #0442 though. MPG shows that one more in the warmer months (May, July, Sept) in TX. Not an expert either...

Agree ...
All the Cryptothelea gloverii specimens on BOLD are much lighter and not shaded dark towards the inner margin like Cryptothelea nigrita

Thank you for your input. This one is apparently a very difficult call. It looked easy to me when I first reported it, but RLZ's reply made me know there was a lot that I didn't understand. Interesting that you saw it in Houston too. And that Gerald Riley apparently saw one.
