On a side note, what kind of camera did you use?

 
Camera
I used a Canon Powershot SX10 IS (a so-called super-zoom, with 20X telephoto). Onto that I added a Raynox DCR-250 close-up adapter, which essentially reduces the minimum distance at which you can focus. In this case, the lens was 2-3 inches from the wasp.

by the way, the wing venation is very importat for the id
