one of the armyworm cats

It looks a lot like the great brown dart (Eurois astricta). Interesting that the head, prothoracic shield, and anal plate lack any pigmentation, but the faint pattern is still there.

 
I take this back
After sleeping on it I'm more partial to the spotted-side cutworm (Agnorisma badinodis).

that may well be the better choice. All the "armyworms" and their relatives looks so similar. John Balaban will probably know for sure

I couldn't find any pictures of this on bugguide except for one that had never been officially assigned that didn't look that similar; to me it looks more like something in spodoptera?
