I'm not certain, but I think this is S. mormonia
It is an aberrant female individual with a very abnormal color pattern, so it's hard to be sure of the species. No species normally has a pattern like this. However, the overall coloring, wing shape and small size make me think it is likely this species. There are several
Speyeria
species found in the Bozeman area though, and I haven't eliminated others from consideration yet. Odds are that there were others flying with it (?), probably the same species, but more normal looking.
