Strange Texas Caterpillar - Battus philenor

Size: approx 2" long
The only info I have found regarding this caterpillar is on Google and that it is a crimson rose caterpillar and lives in Asia? No record of it here in Texas. Is it truly a crimson rose? I have never seen its butterfly which is a gorgeous butterfly.

Thank you very much for your identification! Interesting that the asian crimson rose caterpillar and the pipevine swallowtail are so very similar with each producing a gorgeous butterfly.
