This was found on a Sand Live Oak (Quercus geminata) in a scrubby flat woods area. Believe the ID to be Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis.

Since it sounds like you're the sort to appreciate extra info, I'll tweak the name of the tree -- sand live oak, to my knowledge, is Q. geminata. Maybe you got nabbed by an autocorrect. :) Thanks for the nice picture of the Andricus!

For some reason I added the r and it became so entrenched that I have typed it that way for 10 years. I have to go back and change the title of about 20 images. Thanks

Correct ID
Thanks for the correct ID Charley. I do O.K. with grass and plant species ID - but with insects, I'm just taking a stab in the dark. Thank goodness there are some really knowledgeable people on this site who sort it all out.
