I like adding these shots showing behaviour. It shows that carpenter ants have a natural place outdoors, and not just chewing up people's house foundations.

Carpenter ant (Camponotus sp.) - minor worker
Combination of yellow hairs on the gaster and parly reddish legs suggest C. pennsylvanicus.

Nice shot.
For some reason this ant seems huge. I don't remember there being such a size discrepency with the ant-aphids I've shot. Or perhaps these aphids are very tiny?

Tiny aphids
Hi Lynette, the ant is about 8mm, and the aphids are about 1.5mm.
