Large Female Orb Weaver, San Jose CA - Neoscona crucifera - female

Large Female Orb Weaver, San Jose CA - Neoscona crucifera - Female
San Jose (North), Santa Clara County, California, USA
September 11, 2006
Size: Quarter
This is a very large female, probably one of the largest I've seen since I've been here. She is brownish gold in color. I found her today while rescuing a damselfly that was trapped in her web. She managed another catch just after sunset and trashed her web. She then began reconstruction of the web. These shots were just prior to the destruction.

Neoscona
I'm pretty sure this is a Neoscona, possibly Noescona crucifera.
