Sphaerophoria sulphuripes...Female
"Y" shape on frons with strong anterior lobes and tergite 6 with three separated lobes at anterior margin of tergite. ( Lobes can be joined ). I have sent it to Martin.

Sphaerophoria sulphuripes....... female

You can see in these profile views that the transverse suture bends backwards at very sides of thorax and almost reaches the base of wing. When viewed from above the yellow stripe can appear to go beyond suture. The posterior callus is the same colour as the dorsum and this would be expected to be at least slightly paler in those deemed to have the yellow side stripe continuing to post alar callus. Look at the black strong "Y" shape on frons which is typical S.sulphuripes. Abdominal pattern fits sulphuripes.

Sorry! I keep going back and forth on this fly - in one photo, the stripes look to not extend beyond the suture; in the other they look like they do. I'll leave it in genus for now, but if someone else has an opinion as to the stripes, please share!

Another view
I have another photo of this insect that I just reviewed. The strip is more visible on this one. I will go ahead and ad.

Thanks so much! From the extra photo, the stripes are definitely extending past the suture (i.e. it's not S. sulphuripes), so unfortunately we can't take this fly any further than genus....

Based on the patterns on the thorax, I would *very* tentatively guess one of Sphaerophoria, Allograpta, or Toxomerus - I can't tell if the back of the eye is sharply indented enough to be Toxomerus, and can't tell enough about the abdominal pattern to distinguish between the three.
