Grapholita molesta - Aspila packardi

Grapholita molesta - Aspila packardi
Henderson, Chester County, Tennessee, USA
April 23, 2013

Moved, Grapholita packardi
Moved from Oriental Fruit Moth. Michael Sabourin's recent identification of my collected specimens from 2019 that I had misidentified as molesta revealed them to in fact be dull packardi. Specimens of this appearance have long been misidentified at BugGuide as molesta, which appears to be distinguishable from packardi by the dull whitish flecks concentrated near the inner margin on the striae and the prominent whitish stigma at about 3/4 of FW length within the postmedia fascia which is inconspicuous to absent in packardi.
