Robber Fly? Maybe Laphria flavicollis? - Laphria flavicollis

Robber Fly? Maybe Laphria flavicollis? - Laphria flavicollis
Seven Springs, Wayne County, North Carolina, USA
May 6, 2013
I captured this individual as it was sat on a leaf. My photo was taken at a range of about 6 feet with macro set on the camera and zoomed in as far as autofocus would allow. I thought I was seeing a bee, because of the hair on it. However, my cropped photo shows that this insect has a much smaller insect in its grasp, something that I couldn't see by eye from where I took the photo. I am afraid that this was the only shot I got.
