Millipede--species? - Oxidus gracilis

Millipede--species? - Oxidus gracilis
Williamson County, Texas, USA
September 11, 2006
Size: ~3.5 cm
Forgot to mention--unlike the millipedes I've seen before, which coil up if disturbed, this one did not, when nudged gently with a twig...it crawled right up onto the twig which let me move it from its perilous location on the rock. I had tried to make it a bridge to the iris stems, but it wouldn't climb onto the flake of limestone I used. It did take to the twig, however.

Moved
Moved from Millipedes.

Oxidus
Oxidus gracilis (Polydesmida: Paradoxosomatidae).

Thanks...
...for the ID. I've now seen more of these little guys hanging around that water feature. I've found some dead (drowned) and they are curled in the more typical millipede spiral.
