Metallic blue Stelis - Stelis - Elliott Chaparral Reserve, San Diego County, California, USA May 2, 2013 Size: 9mm
Head view--note that the head is relatively small compared to the thorax, which contrasts with many Osmia species this bee resembles. This Stelis was collected while it foraged on nectar on Hemizonia fasciculata. There was a great abundance of Osmia of several species foraging nearby, as well as Hoplitis albifrons maura.
