Beetle - Calligrapha apicalis? - Calligrapha

Beetle - Calligrapha apicalis? - Calligrapha
Merrickville, Ontario, Canada
May 5, 2013
On April 2, 2010, I photographed a beetle that was later identified as Calligrapha apicalis by Bugguide.net, is this one the same species?

Moved from scalaris group.

looks quite different to me; pretty sure it's not apicalis
with 23 spp. known to occur in Ontario, the province is the toughest area of all, as far as Calligrapha identification is concerned.
host data usually critical for a positive ID; seeing the epipleuron often a big plus

Calligrapha
I do see some differences, now that you mention it. It was on my doorstep so I don't know the host plant. I'm not sure what the epipleuron is?
23 spp. occur in Ontario and yet this is only the second time in 3 years I've seen a beetle that looks like this and I'm always looking for and photographing bugs.
Thanks for your help!
Bea

epipleuron
...is a marginal portion of the elytron separated by a crease, folded around the thorax and sometimes the abdomen, and usually visible on ventrolateral views, e.g.:
--the pale thing around the body here is the epipleura
--this angle also shows enough to appreciate the epipleuron's coloration, but doesn't give a good idea of its shape (in Calligrapha diagnostics, the color is all we need; in other cases it's the shape that counts)
