Overall build and size, largely red abdomen and colour of hind tarsi seem to point to Chalcosyrphus libo (using Ontario Syrphid guide)??

I don't know how much species variation is acceptible here, but to me, the abdomen on yours looks different than C. libo. My guess is that yours is a species not yet covered by the Ontario site. (There are roughly 30 species in North America. Ontario shows 12.)
