Hippodamia parenthesis? - Hippodamia parenthesis

Hippodamia parenthesis? - Hippodamia parenthesis
Garden City, Finney County, Kansas, USA
May 15, 2013
Collected in wheat field with many Convergent Ladybeetles. I photographed the tarsal claws, hopefully from the proper angle to determine if tooth is "closely appressed". However, I have no baseline to go from...is the tooth in the photo closely appressed enough to make this H. parenthesis?

Yes, H. parenthesis
The tarsal claw is indeed more closely appressed than my H. lunatomaculata. Plus it turns out that H. lunatomaculata does not occur in Kansas, but I didn't check the range before scoping it!

good to know
thanks again!

will check again H. lunatomaculata specmen
I'll put my H. lunatomaculata under the scope and compare the tarsal claw with your photo. HOpefully we can get an answer!

Incidentally, this is the best Hippodamia tarsal claw image I've seen. Good work!

Great
thanks for taking the time to look!
